The Pediatric Service uses specialized testing techniques to provide comprehensive eye examinations to infants, toddlers, children and exceptional patients who may not respond to the traditional clinical examination.

Children often
do not know
how they should be seeing
because they assume that
everyone sees
the way they do.

Children with signs or symptoms of vision problems should be examined as soon as possible.

The American Optometric Association recommends that all children have a comprehensive eye examination by:

  • the age of 6 months
  • at 3 years
  • before entering first grade
  • thereafter per optometrist recommendation (not less than every 2 years)

Examination results are recommendations are always thoroughly explained and discussed. If glasses are prescribed, durable frames and shatter resistant lenses are recommended.
