The Pediatric Service uses specialized testing techniques to provide comprehensive eye examinations for infants, toddlers, children and exceptional patients who may not respond to the traditional clinical examination. Special attention is paid to eye focusing, eye teaming and eye tracking with the understanding that visual stress and fatigue can impact a child's performance over the course of the school day.

Any child with signs or symptoms of vision problems, like eye rubbing or squinting, should be examined as soon as possible. Even if your child does not display any signs of vision problems, a child’s first eye exam is recommended between the ages of 9 – 12 months.

Beginning in January 2014, one of the ten essential benefits of the Affordable Care Act is vision care for all children. The benefit includes yearly eye examinations and materials.

All of our faculty optometrists have advanced training or have extensive experience in pediatric optometry. They will thoroughly explain and discuss the results and recommendations from the examination. Reports can be written to the child’s school, doctors, or therapists explaining any ocular conditions and the impacts it may have. If glasses are prescribed, durable frames and shatter resistant lenses are recommended.

The InfantSEE® program provides a one-time, no cost, comprehensive eye and vision assessment for babies 6 to 12 months old. All of our pediatric doctors are providers for this program. For more details, please visit http://infantsee.org.
