Low Vision Rehabilitation

Services and devices to maximize remaining vision for daily tasks.

Overview

The Low Vision Rehabilitation Service provides care to help adults and children manage the effects of vision-limiting conditions such as macular degeneration, albinism, retinitis pigmentosa, optic atrophy, and others. We tailor testing and recommendations to each patient’s specific concerns and goals. Often, the focus is on increasing independence with tasks such as reading, using a computer, writing, driving, managing household activities, performing job duties, or reducing glare sensitivity.

Our team is experienced in prescribing a wide range of low vision technologies, including:

  • Strong reading glasses
  • Well-lighted magnifiers of various powers
  • Electronic magnification systems
  • Hand-held telescopes
  • Telescope glasses
  • Prism systems for peripheral awareness
  • Tinted lenses

We also provide guidance on driving options, education, vocational rehabilitation, qualifying for disability services, and other aspects of living with impaired vision.
