Comprehensive eye exams for vision correction and overall eye health.
Overview
The Primary Vision Care Service provides comprehensive eye examinations to patients ages 13 and older. Each exam includes testing of the visual system and a thorough evaluation of the patient’s ocular and systemic health.
To fully assess the patient’s ocular health, a dilated eye exam is performed during each comprehensive exam. Examining the back of the eye through a dilated pupil is the ideal way to evaluate the patient’s ocular condition. Many eye diseases do not present with symptoms and can only be detected through a dilated exam. If any disease is identified, our attending optometrists will make the appropriate referrals to specialists and coordinate with the patient’s primary care physician to ensure proper follow-up care.
After all testing is complete, our patients receive a spectacle prescription. Your doctor may recommend specific lens materials and features to optimize your vision. With more than 3,000 frames in our Eyewear Gallery, our licensed opticians help each patient find the best frame and state-of-the-art lens designs to achieve the best vision possible.
It is an honor for the doctors of the Primary Vision Care Service to provide your eye care. To schedule an appointment, call 614-292-2020 (option 1, then option 2). You can also request an appointment online through our Request an Appointment page.
The American Optometric Association recommends a comprehensive eye examination every one to two years for patients ages 18–60, and an annual evaluation for patients age 61 and older. Patients at risk should be examined at least annually, regardless of age.
Patients at risk include:
- Those with diabetes, hypertension, or a family history of ocular disease (such as glaucoma or macular degeneration)
- Individuals in visually demanding occupations or jobs with high risk of eye injury
- Patients taking prescription or nonprescription drugs with ocular side effects
